Virgil has a huge crush on Liz. She has him stuck in the friend zone. When Virgil is changed into a shadow elf, the gap between them grows but that doesn't stop Virgil from hoping she will remain by his side even in his terrible situation
Liz is a nurse at St. Joseph, an outpost for recovering wounded soldiers. Virgil was a paladin in training.
